I have had this solar keyboard folio for almost one year and I am writing this review after having used it extensively. A keyboard case in general transforms the iPad into a much more useful tool and having a solar-charged one is extremely convenient; it charges with ambient light just fine or you can leave it under a lamp overnight for plenty of usage time throughout the day. I primarily used this folio at graduate school to take extensive notes for engineering courses (8-9 hours of usage per day). The secondary position, which shuts-off the keyboard portion and turns it into a media controller (see the alternate functions on spacebar, etc), happens to be an ideal position for using the iPad with a stylus and I drew many diagrams and wrote many equations. You might turn on music while writing though, so just mute the volume and you don't have to worry. The primary position, which turns on the main keyboard, places the iPad into a comfortable viewing position for typing, reading, web browsing, etc. The keyboard is very responsive and has a nice feel, /much/ better than say the type-cover of the Surface2. When the keyboard comes on, it pairs quickly (not instantly, mind you, but pretty quickly). It is easy for me to switch between writing/drawing mode to keyboard mode while taking notes to jot down something a lengthy comment a professor said, and then quickly go back to drawing mode to draw equations or examples and continue note-taking. (If you switch between the secondary and primary positions fast enough, the keyboard won't shut-off)At first, I almost wanted to throw this thing out. I was very frustrated because I thought it wouldn't turn on and that the keyboard would constantly stop working. After I RTFM'd, it made perfect sense and I have been able to use it reliably ever since. It is important to note that the two viewing positions have sensors which the feet activate and the iPad must be securely placed into those notches in order for the keyboard to activate. Once you learn how to do this properly, the product is very reliable. I would almost guarantee a lot of the complaints on here are mostly due to user error (I almost wrote a negative review myself back then). This problem might be exacerbated by using the case on your lap where you may scrunch the case slightly and unseat the feet from the sensors. Ideally, this case works best on a desk or flat surface. After writing so many pros, I 'd have to say that the main CON is that the folio does not stay shut very well and I had to disable the smart-lock feature through the iPad settings because the case would constantly slide just slightly to cause the iPad to think it was open while in my backpack. Not a huge problem for me, though, because I don't really care about the smart-lock feature. I prefer using the lock-button anyway. This keyboard folio also makes it easier for me to use more complex lock passwords because I don't have to bother with the troublesome on-screen keyboard to enter them. Another CON, which has been fixed by now, was that in previous iOS (especially around the time I first bought it a year ago) the OS would constantly freeze and then the iPad would need to be restarted (under some conditions that I haven't really figured out) when the keyboard was connected. This was a consistent problem with all bluetooth keyboards back then and was not isolated to this product. Since then, iOS updates have removed this problem and I would say it has been gone for several months now.So as of today, I give this product 5 stars, transforming the iPad into a much more useful product, with the only con being that the smart-lock feature is useless due to it not seating properly on close. Again, I want to reiterate that this is not a big deal and the case stays shut well enough to protect the screen in a backpack. Just disable the smart-lock function in Settings and you're good to go.
