From the Manufacturer Fellowes Tilt-n-Slide Pro Keyboard
Manufacturer: Fellowes
The under-desk adjustable keyboard tray of my new 3-sided work desk HAD to go, but I couldn't spend all day at my keyboard with it perched on top of the desk. Medical condition mandates I sit with both legs elevated on a stool, so under-desk clearance becomes an issue, as well as side-drawer access clearance along with ergonomic concerns. Tilt-n-Slide Pro to the rescue! I found the non-pro version on a refurb "steal" here at Amazon, so started with it, figuring if it was too big (long) for work I could use it at home, which turned out to be the case. At which point I fired up my trial Amazon Prime membership because I was so impressed with the "non-pro" and wanted to get my work desk squared-away soonest. As stated by many other reviewers, this is a serious and sturdy piece of equipment that WORKS, well-designed and functional. The one thing I miss is the tilting mouse-tray feature from the otherwise-lousy under-counter tray it replaces. But the movable mouse tray IS great, and permits me to move it up and over to get into my desk drawers with the keyboard tilted down, so I'm not complaining. And I really don't see how they could add a tilt feature given the careful and sturdy design of the current movable aspect. All ergonomic adjustments are very easy to effect from a comfortable seated position at the keyboard, and I'm confident I'll get years of excellent service from this well designed-and-executed product. Several co-workers are already eyeing it with interest, and one is planning to purchase several for various family members...two pharmacists who work standing up, a college student, and one for home.this keyboard attachment is perfect for my needs. it is very sturdy and well-made. the comfort pads for your wrists are very substantial and will last from heavy use.the device is very heavy, but doesn't require tools to install. it connects to your desktop. mine desktop is approximately 3/4" thick and is a very tight fit. it was an effort to get this to slide onto my desk. perhaps I could not figure out how to make the parts that attached to the desk open any wider because it doesn't make sense to me that they would limit the number of desks this device could be used on. anyway, a couple of notes: the device, when in the flat position can slide away from the user. but it does not slide under the desk, but above at approximately 2" in height. for me, that is a lot of desk surface real estate I would have liked had I chosen a device that slid under the desktop instead. Another issue I have is that although the mouse pad platform can slide left-to-right and will lower a bit when slid all the way to the right, it is not capable of lowering to the same height as the adjacent keyboard section.overall, I am very happy with the item.Pros:the product is solid and does adjust to up and down and back and forth. It is very easy to install and can be moved easily for repositioning.Cons: This mouse tray is higher and at a bizarre angle. It sits much too high. In fact the mouse pad should be lower than the tray. I bought this for shoulder pain and it is not ergonomic. It put too much strain on the neck and shoulder muscles. Also, the mouse pad tilts with the keyboard tray which is a terrible design. If you use just the rubber surface, then mouse drags. You have to use a smooth surface. Once you do this, the mouse slides to the bottom of the gel pad and you have to basically hold the mouse up.I purchased this keyboard tray a few (2?) years ago and it was great until just last week when one of the clamps just broke! Didn't think I was that hard on the tray, just regular typing activities. It's a shame as it was a sturdy tray and I really liked it while I could use it, but I was just surprised to see this clamp completely break off the main structure.Update 3/20/2018 - Since this worked out so well for me, I made do with just one clamp since the original post above, ...until today when the other clamp broke off like the first one. Now it looks like I'll have to go buy a new one. Despite the breaking clamp, this worked out great for me for several years and served its purpose.I truly needed a keyboard tray on the desktop to improve the ergonomics of the workstation. I am at the computer desk approximately ten hours per day, almost everyday and the posture of sitting, reading and typing began to cause serious hand, upper back, neck and shoulder discomfort. I was lucky enough to have chiropractor who strongly advised me to change the entire workstation and bit by bit I changed everything. The final piece that I needed was a keyboard tray, however I did not want one that had to be screwed into the desktop. Fellowes does not screw into the desk at all. Plus it has the benefit of two soft wrist pads one for the keyboard and another for the mouse. Carpal tunnel relief at last. It feels so much better to type on a tilted keyboard and mouse than to type on a flat desktop. My only regrets about this purchase are that the directions are pitiful; I had to find a YouTube video to figure out how to position the keyboard on the desk and the fact that the first one I received came out of the box with broken pieces.I bought the keyboard tray for a new desk that had a keyboard tray as part of a top drawer, so it was too small for a keyboard and mouse. This tray attaches easily to the top of the desk without damaging the wood, which was important to me because it is a rather expensive desk.Assembly is easy, although it is a bit heavier than you would expect. My only complaint is that, although it is adjustable, the angles are somewhat limited. But I have been able to adapt. This device has been a life-saver for me. Using a mouse on the desktop was killing my neck and shoulder, and this tray has solved that problem. It's very ergonomic. It works okay. The left clamp is not sturdy causing the keyboard to wobble. This is the reason for overall 3 stars.I made a terrible choice when buying this tray.I wanted an ergonomical tray - it is not.It might be comfy for people casually typing in a recliner,It is not for people spending hours typing. The only tilt il the back higher than the front, which is contrary to all ergonopmical principles. (bad for blood circulation with hands higher; bad for wrists with that kind of tilt). plus, mouse is supposed to be level with the keyboard, which is impossible to do with that tray. It always sits at least an inch higher that the lower tray (lowest setting - can go somewhat two inches high). Plus it always have the same tilt as the tray - cant't be set separately. When horizontal, the lower (main) tray will be somewhat an inch higher than the surface on which it attaches. there is also protuberance somewhat an inch below, which makes it totally unusable by someone as small as I am. I tried putting it on my lap, the main tray is at a good heuight, but the mouse tray is in the way.All in all, a pretty expensive mistake. I have nothing to do with that tray+Heavy / solid build-Not an ergonomical keyboard______Update - gave it to a friend. One of the teeth for the pivot broke down. She's softer than I with her things - and I hardly ever break a thing. So I have to take another star off. With all the metal in this tray, who would have thought the teeth were in plastic? The thickness of my table top is 1 inch but it does not go in.Good product and shipping was fast.
